Frequently asked questions
Who does Mayfair Storyhouse work with?
We work with writers who are ready to bring their books out into the world, who may not have a huge following on social media but who have stories with genuine heart. We believe that stories should be shared because of the merit of the story, not the size of the Instagram account. We're drawn to considered voices, authentic narratives, and careful writing.
What does Mayfair Storyhouse publish?
We publish contemplative nonfiction that helps readers connect with themselves, character-driven/setting-driven fiction that feels like coming home, children's stories that nurture wonder and imagination, and collections of poetry and essays that celebrate life's quiet moments.
Do you offer editorial services separate from publishing?
Yes. Please see our services page for more information.
Will I need to bring my own illustrator/cover image?
For most projects, we handle cover design in-house. For illustrated children's books or projects requiring extensive artwork, we'll discuss illustration needs and costs during our consultation. We can either connect you with vetted illustrators or work with illustrators you bring to the project.
What's your timeline from acceptance to publication?
Timelines vary based on the editorial work needed and the complexity of your project. We'll provide a realistic timeline during our initial consultation.
Do you accept unsolicited manuscripts?
Yes, we welcome queries from writers whose work aligns with our mission. Please contact us with a brief description of your project and we'll let you know if it's a good fit for Mayfair Storyhouse.
Is Mayfair Storyhouse a vanity press?
We are absolutely not a vanity press. We are an independent, boutique publisher.
By boutique, we mean that we offer highly personalized services in specific niche areas of interest.
By independent, we are not associated with any of “the Big Five” publishers and have the freedom to follow our own vision.
Our publishing choices are selective, our process is personal, and every project receives the same care and professional attention we bring to our own titles.
We're currently establishing our publishing partnerships. Contact us to discuss how we might work together on your specific project.
